The ruling party group in the United Kingdom has expressed support for the opening of the Iber Bridge.

“We reject the notion that neighboring countries [Serbia] need to be consulted for the full opening of a bridge on the sovereign territory of Kosovo,” states the document published.

“Initiatives that bring communities together, such as the opening of the Mitrovica bridge for vehicle traffic, should be welcomed—however, they must be implemented carefully to avoid adverse effects. We encourage all parties to establish an effective implementation plan and timeline for the full opening of the Bridge, in order to maximize economic and community benefits in a safe and timely manner.

However, we reject the notion that neighboring countries need to be consulted for the full opening of a bridge on the sovereign territory of Kosovo—this is a decision for the Government of Kosovo to make in complete harmony with minority representatives and under the oversight of Kosovo’s allies, including the United Kingdom, who are the ultimate guarantors of security in the country.”
