The Russian state prosecutor’s office declared Amnesty International an “undesirable” non-governmental organization today, effectively banning its activities in Russia amid a growing crackdown on civil society and any critical voices within the country.
According to the prosecutor’s statement, Amnesty’s London headquarters is described as a center for “preparing global Russophobic projects” funded by Kyiv’s regime accomplices.
The prosecutors further accused Amnesty activists of efforts to intensify military confrontation in the region, justify crimes by Ukrainian neo-Nazis, call for increased funding of such groups, and push for political and economic isolation of Russia.
This move marks another step in Russia’s ongoing repression of organizations and individuals perceived as opposing or criticizing the government.
