Russia Becomes First Country to Officially Recognize Taliban Government in Afghanistan

Russia has officially announced that it has accepted the credentials of the new Afghan ambassador in Moscow, making it the first country in the world to recognize the government led by the Taliban in Afghanistan, reports Rks News.

In a statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was said: “We believe that the official recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s government will give impetus to the development of productive bilateral cooperation between our countries in various fields.”

The news was also confirmed by the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which announced that the Russian ambassador in Kabul, Dmitry Zhirnov, met with the Taliban’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to convey the decision of the Russian government.

Zhirnov described this decision as “a historic step” toward strengthening relations between the two countries.
