A Russian drone strike on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, has killed one person and injured four others, according to local officials, reports RFE.
Moscow’s forces, which began their invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, have escalated air strikes across Ukraine since the early days of winter, including attacks on New Year’s Day in Kyiv, which resulted in two fatalities.
“One person has been killed and four others injured during an enemy airstrike in the Kyiv region,” said Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv region. He reported that a truck driver was killed after being struck by debris from a downed Russian drone.
The debris also fell on a house, injuring three people, including a 16-year-old boy.
Ukrainian Air Force officials stated that Russia launched 93 drones overnight. The military reported that they successfully intercepted or downed most of the drones using air defense systems and electronic warfare.
Authorities added that drone fragments fell in two Kyiv districts, but no additional injuries were reported.
