Russia is hopeful for “certain progress” in resolving the Ukraine issue during negotiations with the United States on Monday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Grigory Karasin, one of the two negotiators sent by Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated today, “We hope to make at least some progress,” in an interview with state television Zvezda.

Karasin emphasized that both he and Sergei Orestovich Beseda, his fellow negotiator, are adopting a “fighting and constructive” approach ahead of their trip to Saudi Arabia.

Putin’s foreign affairs advisor, Yuri Ushakov, confirmed on Thursday that Karasin, the Chairman of the Upper House’s Foreign Affairs Committee, and Sergei Beseda, a senior official from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), would represent Russia in the talks. Ushakov highlighted that both negotiators are “experienced” and “well-informed about international issues.”
