Russia has lost a strategic chemical plant that supported its military sector. The facility in Dorogobuzh, located in the Smolensk region, played a significant role in the country’s chemical industry.

The strike caused substantial damage to the plant, directly affecting its production capacity.

The facility is believed to account for approximately 10 percent of Russia’s national ammonium nitrate output. This chemical compound carries dual strategic importance: it is widely used in agriculture for fertilizer production, while also serving as a key component in the manufacturing of explosives.

Due to its dual-use significance, the damage to the plant is expected to have consequences across the industrial and agricultural sectors, as well as in the military supply chain.

The loss of such production capacity represents a serious challenge for Russia’s chemical industry and may impact supply stability in the period ahead.
