Following the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, the American leader has reportedly agreed to support a proposal to freeze the conflict along existing front lines.
However, Moscow appears unmoved by the suggestion, as Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to adhere to his maximalist stance on the war.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Monday that Russia’s negotiating position remains unchanged regarding a ceasefire or the freezing of hostilities along current lines of contact.
“The negotiating position of the Russian Federation regarding the freezing of the war at the contact line remains unchanged,” Peskov said.
When asked about what Putin may have proposed to Trump concerning territorial issues, Peskov declined to provide further details about the leaders’ recent phone call.
Peskov also confirmed that Budapest was chosen as the location for a future summit between Putin and Trump, citing the strong ties of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán with both leaders.
“Orbán has rather warm relations with President Trump and very constructive relations with President Putin,” Peskov explained.
“And this, of course, greatly contributed to the understanding reached during their latest phone conversation,” he added.
