Russia launched extensive attacks with drones and missiles against Ukraine on Monday, killing at least three people and causing power outages in several cities, according to Ukrainian officials.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russia used more than 100 missiles and about 100 drones in the assaults, which targeted “critical civilian infrastructure.”
On the social media platform Telegram, Zelenskyy stated that it was unfair for Ukrainian forces to be restricted in their ability to conduct long-range strikes while Russia faces no such limitations.
Ukrainian officials have long sought greater freedom to use the weapons provided by allied countries.
Ukraine aims to strike military targets within Russia, which are used to launch missile and drone attacks against Kyiv.
“America, Britain, France, and our other partners have the power to help us stop this terror,” Zelenskyy wrote. “The time for decisive action is now,” he added.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that it had downed Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk and Yaroslavl regions early Monday morning.
Yaroslavl Governor Mikhail Yevrayev said that one of the drones was downed before it could hit an oil refinery.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Saratov region was the primary target of Ukrainian drone attacks overnight, with Moscow claiming to have destroyed nine of them.
Officials in Saratov reported that drone debris damaged a residential complex and injured one person.
The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region reported two people injured from a Ukrainian drone attack.
Moscow also announced that its air defenses had downed Ukrainian drones over the Kursk, Tula, Oryol, and Ryazan regions.
