Russia has expressed a willingness to hear out U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s proposal for ending the war in Ukraine, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. Speaking to the state news agency Interfax, Ryabkov mentioned that Moscow is open to suggestions that would facilitate negotiations, rather than prolong military aid to Kyiv.
“There are signals being exchanged between Washington and Moscow through private channels,” Ryabkov stated, emphasizing that Russia seeks tangible progress, not more support for Ukraine’s military efforts.
This openness comes as Russia potentially prepares a new airstrike campaign. Ukrainian officials are urgently appealing for Western support to bolster defenses, though doubts persist over what to expect from Trump’s administration. Trump has been known for his ambiguous promises to end the conflict and his praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin, raising questions about the future of U.S. aid to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell reassured Ukraine of unwavering European support, tweeting, “Backing Ukraine has been my top priority and will remain central to the EU’s agenda.”
