Just hours after Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire following negotiations with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia, both Russia and Ukraine launched airstrikes against each other overnight.

Russia carried out two missile attacks on the Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, killing one person, according to regional governor Serhiy Lysak. In a separate attack near Odesa, four crew members aboard a cargo ship were killed.

The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was also targeted in a large-scale assault, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war that Russia initiated in 2022. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that air defense systems were activated and successfully repelled the attacks.

Additional strikes were reported in Kharkiv, while Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation stated that air raid sirens were triggered across ten regions surrounding Kyiv.

These developments raise concerns over the viability of the recently negotiated ceasefire and the prospects for de-escalation in the conflict.
