Russia and Ukraine launched drone attacks against each other overnight, as Russian forces intensified their ground offensives.
In a statement, Ukraine’s Air Force reported that on the night of March 28, Russia launched 163 drones of various types toward Ukraine. Out of these, Ukrainian forces claimed to have shot down 89, while 51 drones reportedly failed to reach their targets, likely due to electronic warfare countermeasures.
Heavy Shelling in Kherson
In the past 24 hours, Russian troops carried out intense shelling and airstrikes on the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson and surrounding settlements, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the regional military administration.
Kherson remains a focal point of the conflict, as its frontline position exposes residents to constant drone and artillery attacks. The latest bombardment reportedly killed three people and injured 12 others.
Drone Strikes Target Russian Cities
Meanwhile, overnight strikes hit the Russian cities of Saratov and Engels, with local residents reporting multiple explosions, according to Russian Telegram channels. The Saratov region has been a frequent target of Ukrainian drone attacks, particularly due to the presence of a key military base near Engels.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense stated that its forces shot down 78 Ukrainian drones in the early hours of March 28.
Increased Ground Fighting
As the United States continues diplomatic efforts to bring peace to Ukraine, the Ukrainian General Staff reported on March 28 that Russian forces have intensified their ground operations, with 209 clashes recorded in the past 24 hours.
The highest number of Russian attacks occurred in the direction of Pokrovsk, a strategically important city in eastern Ukraine, Kyiv’s military stated.
