A Russian Mi-28 attack helicopter crashed in the Leningrad region during a planned training flight, resulting in the deaths of two crew members, as confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The crash occurred in an uninhabited area, far from residential zones, and no other casualties were reported on the ground, according to local media sources.
The Mi-28, known as “Havoc,” is an advanced attack helicopter designed for high-risk combat operations. It is equipped with sophisticated avionics and heavily armored hulls, used to target ground objectives like tanks and armored vehicles. The Mi-28 is widely used by the Russian Armed Forces and has seen combat in areas such as Syria and Ukraine.
Although the cause of the crash remains unclear, Russian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Mechanical failure and pilot error are among the possible factors being considered.
The Ministry of Defense has reported that the helicopter was not carrying any munitions at the time of the crash. A search and rescue team was dispatched to the scene, and a commission from the Air and Space Forces is conducting an investigation into the causes of the accident.
