Russian missile strikes continue to hit railway infrastructure in northern regions of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the board of Ukraine’s national railway company Ukrzaliznytsia, provided an update on Facebook.
“The enemy continues targeting transportation links to disrupt connections with frontline territories, particularly in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions. They are striking to block main routes and are attempting to cut off alternative routes as well,” Pertsovskyi stated.
Passengers traveling to Sumy, Konotop, Shostka, and surrounding cities will use replacement buses, taking routes “at a safe distance from strike zones.”
“We are coordinating with the regional military administrations of Sumy and Chernihiv, and the mayors of Konotop, Shostka, and Nizhyn to organize transfers quickly,” he added.
On Wednesday, Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, announced on Telegram that train services to Sumy and Chernihiv had been temporarily suspended after Russian attacks rendered at least one railway section impassable.
“Passengers are safe. We are continuously coordinating with Ukrzaliznytsia and local communities to respond swiftly and assist people,” Hryhorov said.
Local communities have arranged buses to transfer passengers to Konotop, Shostka, and Sumy.
Russia has repeatedly targeted railway infrastructure in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions over the past week, aiming to disrupt transport and logistics in northern Ukraine.
