A Russian missile attack late Friday struck infrastructure surrounding the Black Sea port of Pivdennyi in Ukraine’s Odesa region, killing seven people and injuring 15 others, according to Ukrainian officials.

Escalation Following Ukrainian Drone Strike

The attack comes after Ukraine announced it had targeted a Russian “shadow fleet” tanker with aerial drones near the Libyan coast earlier on Friday. This marked the first such Ukrainian strike in the Mediterranean since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Odesa Remains a Key Target

Odesa, a critical hub for Ukrainian grain and other exports, has been a frequent target of Russian attacks throughout the war.

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba said Kyiv is coordinating with Moldovan authorities to establish alternative transit routes away from the affected area, allowing trucks and passengers to cross the border safely.

Moldova Provides Assistance

In response to the disruptions, Moldovan authorities set up temporary camps at border crossings, offering shelter and food to travelers heading toward Ukraine.
