The Ukrainian Air Force has reported that a group of Russian soldiers surrendered near the Kursk region in eastern Russia, becoming prisoners of war in Ukrainian custody. According to the official statement, the Russian soldiers voluntarily surrendered due to “inhumane treatment, psychological pressure, and threats” they had experienced from their superiors in Russian military units, reports Rks News.

“The Russian forces endured abuse that was more terrifying to them than being captured by our troops,” stated the Ukrainian Air Force in a Facebook post.

The captured soldiers have now been provided with medical aid and psychological support. Ukrainian officials stated that these individuals may be included in upcoming prisoner exchange rounds with the Russian side.

The soldiers’ surrender comes at a time when Ukrainian forces have launched a bold offensive along the eastern border, entering Russian territory in the Kursk region. This offensive involves the use of drones and heavy weaponry supplied by Western allies and marks a new phase in the two-year-long war between Ukraine and Russia.
