One month after their wedding, Rute Cardoso, the wife of Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota, has paid a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, marking a painful milestone since their marriage.
Jota tragically died in a car accident in Spain on July 3 at the age of 28, along with his 25-year-old brother André Silva, also a professional footballer.
In an emotional Instagram post, Cardoso shared photos from their wedding day on June 22, writing: “One month since our ‘until death do us part’,” adding, “Forever yours.”
The couple, who had been together for many years and had three children, had married less than two weeks before the tragic accident.
Cardoso was seen embracing mourners as she arrived at the church on July 5 for the funeral ceremony. Liverpool FC, Jota’s club before his passing, has since retired his number 20 jersey as a mark of respect.
A mural honoring the star has also been painted on a city wall. Jota was a key figure in Liverpool’s recent successes, lifting the Premier League trophy last season.
He was also part of the Portuguese national team that won the UEFA Nations League in June, having previously lifted the same trophy in 2019.
