NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte met with President-elect Donald Trump in Palm Beach, Florida on Friday, a NATO spokesperson confirmed today.

“They discussed a range of global security challenges facing the alliance,” said spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah in a statement.

NATO’s official website also noted that Rutte met with Congressman Mike Waltz, who was appointed by Trump as National Security Advisor, as well as other members of Trump’s national security team, who will lead the upcoming Republican administration.

On Friday, NATO did not respond to a request for comment regarding reports from Dutch media that Rutte, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, had traveled to Florida on a Dutch government plane to meet with Trump.

Mark Rutte, who assumed the role of NATO Secretary General last month, has been widely regarded as one of Europe’s leading figures in building and maintaining strong working relations with Donald Trump during his first presidential term from 2017 to 2021.
