The new European Union envoy for Kosovo, Peter Sorensen, will conduct an official visit to Pristina tomorrow, where he will meet with the country’s top institutional leaders.

According to the official agenda from the Presidency, Sorensen will be received by the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, in a meeting that is expected to begin at 09:45.

During this meeting, key issues related to Kosovo-EU relations are expected to be discussed, including the European integration process, recent political developments, and the security situation in the country.

In addition to meeting with President Osmani, the EU envoy is expected to hold other meetings with representatives of Kosovo’s main institutions.

The focus of the discussions will be on the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, the challenges of implementing agreements reached so far, and Kosovo’s European integration prospects.

This will be Sorensen’s first visit to Kosovo since his appointment as the EU’s Special Representative.

He arrives at a time when tensions in the region and the dynamics of the dialogue with Serbia remain sensitive issues in international relations.

For this reason, his visit is expected to be accompanied by important statements and messages regarding the EU’s engagement in political processes and stability in the Western Balkans.

Who is Sorensen?

Sorensen has extensive diplomatic experience within the EU structures. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor at the European External Action Service (EEAS) for Digital Diplomacy.

Throughout his diplomatic career in the EU, Sorensen has held several positions in the Western Balkans. He served as the EU’s Special Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Head of the EU Delegation in Sarajevo. He has also been the Head of the EU Delegation in Skopje.

Earlier, Sorensen worked as an advisor in Kosovo in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and was also the EU Special Representative for the EU High Representative in Serbia.

In the Balkans, he also worked in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mission in Croatia.

His experience in the region is said to have been one of the reasons why Kaja Kallas decided to appoint him as the successor to Miroslav Lajčák.
