Over €12 million worth of assets have been confiscated and seized over the past four years, managed by the Agency for the Management of Seized and Confiscated Assets.

Acting Minister of Justice, Blerim Sallahu, stated tonight on RTK that assets that do not correspond to declared income will be confiscated and returned to the Kosovo budget.

“This is an extremely important law, crucial for the fight against corruption and organized crime. Any delay by the Constitutional Court is an unjustifiable delay that undermines the functioning of the constitutional order and the separation of powers, specifically affecting the legislative process,” Sallahu said.

He emphasized that the law applies only to public officials: “Every person who has worked in Kosovo since 2008 and has received funds from the Kosovo budget can have their assets verified. If those assets do not match their income, they will be confiscated by the Court. This is a civil confiscation and is not related to criminal proceedings.”

The Law on the State Bureau for Verification and Confiscation of Unjustified Assets has long been awaiting review at the Constitutional Court.

On December 5 of last year, legislators approved the law in both readings. It was submitted to the Constitutional Court in December 2024 by the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
