Serbian politician Nikola Sandulović has stated that far-right leader Vojislav Šešelj has explicitly confirmed that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić served as a volunteer in the Serbian forces during the period in which mass killings of civilians were carried out around Sarajevo.

More than 10,000 civilians were killed during the siege of Sarajevo by the Army of Republika Srpska between 1992 and 1996. During that period, according to international investigations, wealthy foreigners allegedly paid to shoot civilians “for sport,” using sniper positions overlooking the city.

The British newspaper The Telegraph reported a day earlier that President Vučić is now being linked to what is being called the “Sarajevo Sniper” operation. Videos published in recent days appear to show Vučić present at one of the elevated military positions above Sarajevo from which sniper fire was directed at civilians. In another video, he is seen holding a rifle, at the time and location where killings are suspected to have occurred.

Šešelj’s Statement: “Vučić Was There”

Sandulović told T7 that Šešelj himself openly acknowledged that Vučić volunteered in Serbian units during those years, and that he was present at locations from which civilians were targeted.

“Šešelj openly stated the truth — that Aleksandar Vučić was a volunteer in the Serbian army during those events, and that he was present at the positions where innocent civilians were shot. It is impossible that he, as a government representative and volunteer at the time, did not know that Serbian authorities under Slobodan Milošević were facilitating organized groups traveling from Belgrade to Sarajevo and back,” Sandulović said.

According to him, multiple eyewitnesses also support this account.

Eyewitness Accounts and Alleged Evidence

“We now have statements from individuals who no longer fear speaking publicly about whether Vučić was present there and with what motives. It is clear he was indeed present. But to determine how long he stayed, in what capacity, and what exactly he did, we must question witnesses — Serbian witnesses, Bosnian Serb witnesses, and foreign observers who were on the ground,” Sandulović added.

He also described details of the sniper killings and the alleged involvement of Serbian state structures.

Organized Sniper Trips and ‘Price Lists’ for Killing Civilians

Sandulović claims that:

  • the Sarajevo siege involved over 200 organized trips
    — by helicopter, bus, or private vehicle — from Belgrade to frontline positions;
  • civilians were deliberately targeted;
  • and there existed a “price list” for killings,
    with the highest “reward” given for shooting a child — especially a mother carrying a child or attempting to flee sniper fire.

“The siege lasted nearly two full years. We have witness accounts describing financial incentives for killing civilians — including mothers with children,” he said.

Call for International Accountability

Sandulović urged the international community to take these allegations seriously and to ensure that President Vučić is held accountable if evidence confirms his involvement.
