German Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, stated that Peter Sorensen, the EU Special Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, will advance the dialogue and introduce new focuses.

In an interview with DW, Sarrazin shared that his initial meetings with Sorensen had left a positive impression, adding that Sorensen would bring new emphases to the negotiations.

“Peter Sorensen, the new EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, will advance this process. The first talks we’ve had have left us with a very good impression of him as a person. He will certainly bring new focuses to the dialogue. At the same time, Sorensen will likely try, through persistent professional work, to bring the two countries closer together,” said Sarrazin.

He emphasized that it is now crucial to work on finding appropriate solutions, and Sorensen is the right person for this task.

“In the past, Germany, but also I personally, had an essential role in supporting the work of European institutions and the European chief negotiator. In the coming weeks and months, we will cooperate closely on this. This is also true for the incoming federal government. Germany supports the European approach in the dialogue as well as the approach of those involved in it,” he continued.

Sarrazin concluded, expressing hope that substantial work would begin soon: “Now it’s important to work hard on solutions. Mr. Sorensen is the right person for this task,” he added.
