The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump will host senior defense and intelligence officials from Saudi Arabia and Israel this week in Washington for separate meetings regarding Iran, as the White House reviews potential military strikes, according to two people close to the matter.
Israel’s Chief of Military Intelligence, General Shlomi Binder, held discussions about Iran with senior Pentagon, CIA, and White House officials on Tuesday and Wednesday, a source close to the issue said. The American outlet Axios reported that he shared intelligence regarding potential Iranian targets, Reuters reports.
Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman was also in Washington for meetings with U.S. officials focused on Iran, according to another source familiar with the talks. Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries have been working to de-escalate the situation and prevent a wider war.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Riyadh would not allow Saudi airspace or territory to be used for military actions against Tehran, according to state news agency SPA.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
One of the sources and a U.S. official said that Trump has not yet made a final decision on further actions, including whether to pursue a military option.
