The leadership of the Union of Education, Science, and Culture (SBASHK), following consultations with union structures across the country, has called for civic and union mobilization in support of the citizen march “Justice, Not Politics!”, scheduled for February 17, on the Independence Day of the Republic of Kosovo in Prishtina.

According to SBASHK, the march is organized by the platform “Freedom Has a Name” and is entirely non-political, representing a citizen call for impartial justice and respect for the sacrifice of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) fighters, who have been held in pre-trial detention for over five years.

In its announcement, SBASHK emphasized that this issue carries special union and historical significance, as many KLA veterans were simultaneously educators and education workers, who were forcibly removed from their workplaces during Milosevic’s regime. During the years of occupation, it was the teachers who kept Albanian-language education alive, preserved national dignity, and maintained hope for freedom.

SBASHK recognizes that thanks to their sacrifice, the just struggle of the KLA, and the support of international allies, Kosovo today is a free and sovereign state. In the face of prolonged injustices against those who contributed to freedom, silence is not an option.

“Participation in this march is not a political act, but a moral and civic one. It is an expression of our collective conscience and a continuation of the union’s mission to defend human dignity and truth,” the announcement stated.

SBASHK calls on all its members to voluntarily, without any obligation and free from political engagement, to join the “Justice, Not Politics!” march, sending a strong message of unity and demand for impartial justice.

“Your participation is a voice for justice, respect for sacrifice, and responsibility toward our history,” the union concluded.
