Speaking alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Berlin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz once again condemned all territorial expansionist ambitions, regardless of who pursues them.
The comments were a clear reference to repeated territorial claims by U.S. President Donald Trump, including the desire to take control of Greenland, a largely autonomous Danish territory.
Trump has also made claims over the Panama Canal and has called for Canada to join the United States.
“Borders should not be changed by force,” Scholz said before discussions with Frederiksen.
“The inviolability of borders is a fundamental principle of international law. This principle must apply to everyone,” he added.
