German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is nearing the end of his term, welcomed Ukraine’s support for a 30-day ceasefire plan proposed by the United States, stating that the next steps now lie in the hands of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The idea of a 30-day ceasefire is an important and correct step towards a just peace for Ukraine… Now it is up to Putin,” Scholz said on the social media platform X.

The outcome of the discussions between the U.S. and Ukraine in Jeddah was also praised by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who described the ceasefire proposal as a positive development.

Ukraine has agreed to the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in the war against Russia’s invasion, prompting the United States to announce the immediate lifting of the suspension of military aid, including the sharing of intelligence information.
