Together with Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the city of Magdeburg, where a horrific attack took place at a Christmas market.
Dressed in black, accompanied by the leader of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Reiner Haseloff, they walked through the Christmas market along the path where the attacker drove a car into the crowd.
“Nearly 40 people have been so seriously injured that we must be deeply concerned for them,” Scholz said.
He described the deadly attack in Magdeburg as a “horrific, mad act.”
“There is no place more peaceful and joyous than a Christmas market,” he said, “where people gather with friends and family to enjoy a warm glühwein and moments of reflection and happiness. To wound and kill so many people there with such brutality—what a horrific act.”
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, and Prime Minister Albin Kurti also reacted to the tragic event, extending their condolences to the victims’ families and expressing solidarity with their German friends.
Meanwhile, Kosovo’s embassy in Germany has activated an emergency hotline to assist Kosovo citizens in need.
