Kosovo has received the second shipment of OMTAS anti-tank missile systems, purchased from Turkey’s state-owned defense manufacturer Roketsan, marking another step in strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.

The announcement was made by Acting Minister of Defense Ejup Maqedonci, who stated that the delivery is part of a contract signed in December 2023 and represents a significant development in enhancing the operational readiness of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF).

According to Maqedonci, the OMTAS system is a modern, medium-range anti-tank missile platform designed to neutralize advanced armored vehicles, including tanks equipped with reactive armor, as well as fortified military targets.

Reactions from Kosovo’s Leadership

The arrival of the new defense systems prompted reactions from Kosovo’s top institutional leaders.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti shared Maqedonci’s announcement on social media, emphasizing that the system is now an integral part of Kosovo’s military arsenal.

“Stronger, safer: the Turkish OMTAS anti-tank system, now part of our army’s arsenal,” Kurti wrote on Facebook.

Meanwhile, President Vjosa Osmani publicly thanked Turkey for its support, posting a message in Turkish on social media.

“Teşekkürler, Türkiye,” Osmani wrote, expressing gratitude for Ankara’s continued cooperation with Kosovo in the field of defense.

Strengthening Defensive Capabilities

Kosovo authorities have repeatedly stressed that investments in defense equipment are aimed at strengthening territorial defense, operational flexibility, and deterrence, in line with international standards and Kosovo’s legal framework.

The delivery comes amid broader efforts to modernize the KSF and deepen strategic defense cooperation with NATO member states and partner countries, including Turkey.
