The second trial at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers is set to begin on February 27 in The Hague, involving former president Hashim Thaçi and four other defendants: Bashkim Smakaj, Isni Kilaj, Fahri Fazliu, and Hajredin Kuçi.
According to reports shared on Info Magazinë on Klan Kosova, four of the accused will appear while on conditional release. During their time in The Hague, the court approved requests for conditional release for Smakaj and Fazliu, meaning the upcoming hearings will proceed with most defendants out of detention.
Meanwhile, Thaçi is not expected to attend the courtroom in person and will likely join via video link, as he remains the only defendant still in custody in the case related to alleged obstruction of justice.
The trial was postponed by three days following a request from Thaçi’s defense team to prepare for proceedings. Prosecutors have not indicated that the hearings will extend beyond March 6, and all witnesses are expected to testify by that date.
