The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kosovo has refused to certify the Serb List for participation in the upcoming local elections on October 12.

The decision was reached during Thursday’s CEC meeting, with two votes in favor, two against, and seven abstentions, leaving the party without the required support.

The strongest opposition came from Vetëvendosje representatives, Sami Kurteshi and Alban Krasniqi, who presented documents alleging that some Serb List candidates for mayoral and assembly positions hold roles in parallel Serbian institutions in Kosovo.

Following the decision, Anu Prattipati, chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo, met with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti at the Government building. She expressed concern over tendencies to exclude Serbian parties from participating in the October local elections.

Prattipati emphasized the importance of ensuring full participation of Kosovo Serbs in the electoral process, stating:

“It is essential that all citizens of Kosovo have the full opportunity to elect their representatives. It is very important that Kosovo Serbs are included in this process.”

She also noted that discussions with the acting Prime Minister addressed concerns over potential actions by Vetëvendosje and the government to exclude some political parties from the upcoming local elections.
