The main political party representing Serbs in Kosovo, the Serbian List, has spread misinformation claiming that their MPs were allegedly attacked in the Kosovo Assembly, including a pregnant MP, when they went to attend a session that would secure their salaries and continuation of their mandates.
What did the Serbian List declare?
“We strongly condemn today’s unprovoked attack on the MPs of the Serb List in the Parliament of Prishtina by MPs of Kurti’s party and the Speaker of the Assembly, Glauk Konjufca, who abused their positions and prevented the elected representatives of the Serbian people from being present at the Assembly session. We emphasize that among those attacked was MP Olivera Zdravković, who is pregnant.”
Analysis:
On December 5th, in the Kosovo Assembly, MPs from the ruling party, Vetëvendosje (Self-Determination Movement), initially blocked the entry of the Serbian List MPs, who had arrived for the session after a six-month absence to avoid losing their mandates. However, no physical assault or verbal confrontation took place by the MPs from the ruling party, and certainly not against MP Zdravković, as the Serbian List claimed, despite her being pregnant.
The MPs from Vetëvendosje opposed this strategy used by the Serbian MPs, who have been repeating this practice since 2022. They attend the Assembly every six months simply to secure their mandates and receive their salaries.
Kosovo Assembly Speaker, Glauk Konjufca, reacted to this situation from the podium, saying it is unacceptable for MPs to misuse taxpayers’ money without fulfilling their duties.
In the end, the Serbian List MPs signed and left the session, thus securing the continuation of their mandates.
