The Basic Court in Prishtina has sentenced Igor Popović, a Serbian government official and Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo, to six months in prison, replaced by a €3,000 fine, after he pleaded guilty to inciting division and intolerance.

Additionally, Popović was banned from entering Kosovo for two years.

The indictment states that on July 18 in Rahovec, during a speech before a crowd of Serbs, Popović labeled the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) a “terrorist organization” and incited hatred by urging Serbs to keep Hoça e Madhe and Rahovec under Serbian control.

Despite claims from Serbian authorities that the plea agreement with the Special Prosecutor was signed under pressure, Popović told the court that he accepted the agreement voluntarily, without any threats or pressure.

When asked directly about any threats or pressure during the deal, Popović responded with a clear “No.”
