Serbia’s Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić represented her country at the inauguration of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, becoming the only European official to attend the controversial event.

Sent by President Aleksandar Vučić, Brnabić joined leaders from Cuba and Nicaragua in Caracas, while most global leaders boycotted the event due to allegations of electoral fraud.

Kosovo Mentioned in Speech

During her visit, Brnabić highlighted Venezuela’s longstanding friendship with Serbia, notably thanking the country for not recognizing Kosovo’s independence.

Widespread Boycotts

The inauguration faced significant international criticism, with countries like the United States, the European Union, Brazil, and Colombia choosing not to participate. Leaders from Argentina and Chile, who have publicly labeled Maduro a dictator, also abstained.

This boycott followed claims by international organizations that Maduro’s electoral victory was illegitimate. Opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez is widely regarded as the rightful winner of the election.

Serbia’s presence at the inauguration underscores its unique stance on international alliances and reflects its diplomatic ties with nations that share its position on Kosovo’s independence.
