Regional media outlets, including Slobodna Bosna, have reported on the growing wave of protests across Serbia. According to the Archive of Public Gatherings, demonstrations were held at least once this week in over 103 cities, towns, and villages. These protests were sparked by the demolition of a canopy at the Novi Sad railway station.

Widespread Protests

The report highlights that protests occurred in major cities such as Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and Čačak, as well as smaller towns including Brus, Kikinda, Požega, and Priboj.

The protest movement, titled “Pause, Serbia” (Zastani, Srbijo), began on November 22, 2024. It was organized by the opposition coalition ProGlas and other opposition parties as a symbolic and peaceful act of resistance.

Media Silence

Slobodna Bosna emphasized that state-controlled media in Serbia have largely ignored the protests, creating a stark divide between the information available through independent sources and the official narrative.

Growing Discontent

The protests are seen as a broader sign of dissatisfaction with President Aleksandar Vučić’s administration. While the Novi Sad railway station incident served as a catalyst, the movement reflects frustration over governance, accountability, and media censorship in the country.
