Two U.S. Congresswomen, Claudia Tenney (Republican) and Chrissy Houlahan (Democrat), have sent a letter to former President Donald Trump, urging him to mediate a normalization agreement between Kosovo and Serbia that would include mutual recognition.

The initiative was made public by Congresswoman Tenney, who shared the letter on her social media. In it, both lawmakers call on Trump to seize what they describe as a “historic opportunity” to achieve lasting peace between the two key Balkan countries.

“After meeting with key government officials in both Serbia and Kosovo, we believe that you and your administration are uniquely positioned at this moment in history to facilitate sustainable and long-term peace. Therefore, we encourage you to use your influence to help broker a normalization agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, possibly through visits to both countries,” the letter reads, as reported by A2 CNN.

The Congresswomen emphasize that tensions between the two countries have triggered regional instability, warning that destabilization in the Balkans often precedes broader global conflicts.

Interestingly, the Serbian movement “We Are the People’s Power”, which shared the news in Serbian media, noted that Congresswoman Tenney had previously been awarded the Order of the Serbian Flag during a visit to Belgrade. They interpreted her involvement in this initiative as a sign of tacit support from the Serbian state for a potential normalization process.
