As the student protest “See You on Vidovdan” is set to begin at 6:00 PM today at Slavija Square in Belgrade, police are reportedly stopping vehicles attempting to reach the capital. Meanwhile, citizens and students have begun marching towards Slavija from New Belgrade.

Protest Program and Demands

The protest program includes a 16-minute silence starting at 7:11 PM in remembrance of the 16 victims who died when a canopy collapsed at the Novi Sad Railway Station. At 7:27 PM, the national anthem will be played, followed by several blocks of student speeches and the awarding of the “Red Peony.” The final deadline for the Serbian Government to meet the students’ demands is 9:00 PM.

Students in blockade have issued two ultimatums: the calling of snap parliamentary elections and the cessation of gatherings in Pionirski Park and Nikola Pašić Square.

Travel Disruptions

Organized car travel from various parts of Serbia to Belgrade was planned. However, reaching the capital by train will not be possible after the “Srbijavoz” company suspended all railway traffic on Friday due to an alleged bomb threat on all tracks and trains.

The student program is scheduled to conclude at 9:20 PM. However, civil assemblies have called for participants to remain at Slavija Square beyond the 9:00 PM deadline.
