Ivana Stradner, a research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington, says she was unable to attend her father’s funeral, who passed away two days ago.
According to her, the reason is the targeting she has faced from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
Originally from Serbia, Stradner says she was advised not to attend her father’s funeral.
“My father passed away, and I was just told that I should not go to his funeral in Serbia because the Serbian president targeted me as a threat on national television,” wrote Ivana Stradner, a research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington.
She stated that she has been the target of threats in Serbia and also in the U.S., “to keep her mouth shut.”
“One day, Vučić’s brutal and authoritarian regime will disappear. It’s just sad to be such a bad person,” she said.
She later added that she had received many kind messages and thanked everyone.
“People who believe in freedom and democracy often have to pay the price. Russia and Serbia have published more than 15 slanderous articles about killing me, including a recent Russian RT propaganda piece accusing me of working with U.S. intelligence to overthrow his regime. But he will never scare me. I know my father is very proud of me. Unfortunately, because of Milošević, he had to leave the country when I was a child,” she said.
