The Serbian List has announced that it will not support the formation of Kosovo’s new government led by Prime Minister-designate Albin Kurti, citing concerns over the treatment of the Serbian community and political representation.
Igor Simić, a senior representative of the Serbian List, stated that the party remains firmly opposed to what it described as policies that allegedly undermine the rights of Kosovo Serbs.
Accusations of Rights Violations
Simić accused the previous government of violating the rights of the Serbian population in Kosovo. However, he emphasized that the Serbian List does not hold hostility toward the Albanian population.
“Serbs from the Serbian List have nothing against the Albanian people, with whom we have lived, live, and will continue to live. However, we will oppose policies aimed at the expulsion of our people,” Simić said.
Criticism of Kurti’s Government Program
Simić also criticized Kurti’s government program, claiming that the policy address failed to mention the Serbian community, which he argued reflects a lack of commitment to minority inclusion.
Objections to Nenad Rašić’s Nomination
The Serbian List representative further voiced objections to the nomination of Nenad Rašić as Minister for Communities and Returns, questioning the legitimacy of his political mandate.
“He secured his parliamentary mandate with votes from areas where Serbs have not lived for decades. These were not Serbian votes,” Simić stated.
“You have the right to appoint him as minister, but you know he will never represent the Serbian people.”
Simić concluded by reaffirming that the Serbian List will not support the formation of the Kurti 3 government, citing what he described as ongoing political and institutional grievances.
Political Context
The formation of the Kurti 3 government comes amid heightened political tensions and ongoing debates regarding minority representation, interethnic relations, and institutional governance in Kosovo. The Serbian List remains the largest political party representing Kosovo Serbs and has traditionally played a key role in government formation processes.
