Serbian Media Calls Out Vučić for “Lying” About Germany’s Role in Opening Chapter 3 in EU Accession Talks
Serbia’s media outlet “Nova.rs” has accused President Aleksandar Vučić of spreading false information on many things and especially regarding the opening of Chapter 3 in Serbia’s EU accession talks. The media outlet claims that Vučić misrepresented the facts during his visit to Germany, where he expressed gratitude for Germany’s support in opening the chapter.
According to “Nova,” Vučić falsely claimed that Germany had backed the opening of Cluster 3, a chapter that remains closed for Serbia. Vučić used his visit to Germany, where lithium was a key topic, to thank the German hosts for their support in Serbia’s European integration process.
However, Vučić’s claims were quickly refuted by Thomas Hacker, a member of the Bundestag and the Western Balkans rapporteur for the Free Democratic Party (FDP). Hacker criticized Vučić’s relationship with the truth, stating, “This statement shows Vučić’s difficult relationship with the truth. The fact is that Germany is against opening this group of negotiation chapters, which, given Serbia’s limited progress on key issues, is the only correct decision.”
