Shaip Kamberi, an Albanian member of the Serbian Parliament, strongly criticized the Special Prosecutor’s request for 45-year prison sentences for former commanders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). He described the request as baseless and politically motivated.

Kamberi argued that the prosecution’s goal is not to punish specific individuals, but rather to discredit the Kosovo liberation struggle and the Albanian people’s efforts for freedom and independence.

“Through this process, the Special Prosecutor is attempting to punish the sacrifice, dedication, and selflessness of Kosovo Albanians in their fight against oppression, massacres, and atrocities committed by the regime of Slobodan Milošević,” Kamberi said.

He stressed that if the genuine aim were justice, heavy sentences should target those who planned and executed policies of violence and ethnic cleansing, including current Serbian leaders, not former KLA members.

Kamberi emphasized that for Kosovo’s liberators, even 45 days in prison would be unacceptable, let alone 45 years. He concluded that their rightful place is in Kosovo, with their families and people, not behind bars.
