Opposition parliamentary groups in the National Assembly of Serbia have submitted a request for the dismissal of Ana Brnabić from her position as Speaker of Parliament, according to Radomir Lazović, a deputy from the Green-Left Front, during a press conference.
The request for dismissal was filed due to alleged violations of the Constitution of Serbia, the Law on the Assembly, and the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure.
Lazović stated that the Assembly’s competence includes enacting laws, amending laws, approving the budget, and ensuring that these processes are preceded by public discussions. He emphasized that every deputy has the right to participate in such debates.
He described Brnabić’s behavior as unprecedented, claiming that the parliamentary session was effectively canceled because no meaningful discussion occurred. “Brnabić misled the public by stating that no one was notified to speak on amendments, while only I and colleague Spirić were informed. In the previous session, Brnabić also prevented the proposal for a vote of no confidence in the government, supported by 85 deputies,” Lazović said.
According to him, Brnabić “started an unprecedented manipulation in Parliament,” fearing the discussion on the no-confidence motion due to the regime’s responsibility for deaths in Novi Sad. He also criticized Brnabić’s suggestion to hold a joint session for all agenda items at once, calling it senseless.
Lazović accused Brnabić of unlawful actions that led to the unconstitutional adoption of the budget law and other decisions. He said they would initiate legal proceedings in competent courts.
“What happened in the last session of Parliament was a historic manipulation by Ana Brnabić to prevent a discussion about the deaths in Novi Sad. The most important law, the budget, was approved without discussion of amendments, as well as all other agenda items,” Llazović added.
He concluded that the request for Brnabić’s dismissal demonstrates how many legal violations, including breaches of the Serbian Constitution and Assembly Rules, occurred. “There have been multiple violations and manipulations by Ana Brnabić. She does not deserve to remain Speaker of Parliament. We will do everything to ensure she no longer holds this position,” Lazović declared.
