Students in Blockade, who are participating in Serbia’s October 25 elections with the “Student List – Students Are Winning,” said police had begun searching premises allegedly used by their fellow student Lazar Mišić, describing the operation as an attempt to arrest students.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the student movement said Mišić’s lawyers were involved in the proceedings and had confirmed that he had not been arrested as of Tuesday afternoon.
The students alleged that the searches were being conducted under pretexts intended to intimidate and harass members of the student movement.
“When those in power are clearly losing, they resort to every possible display of force,” the group said.
It added that police pressure would not silence public discontent or shield those responsible from accountability.
“We will not retreat in the face of intimidation. We will not fall for provocations, and we will not give up the fight for a free and just society,” the statement said.
The students also called on supporters to attend a rally organized by the Student List at Belgrade’s Slavija Square on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The police searches come ahead of Serbia’s October 25 elections, in which the student-backed list is participating. The allegations concerning the purpose of the searches were made by the student movement; the supplied report did not include a response from the police.
