Serbia’s 63rd Parachute Brigade conducted military exercises near the Kosovo border, raising alarm over potential threats and prompting calls for urgent international monitoring.
Today’s drills were observed by residents in Kaçarevë, Kosovo, and reportedly took place just 300 meters from the border line.
KosovaPress reports that the helicopter-based parachute exercises occurred in the village of Muhovac in Serbia and were carried out by the 63rd Parachute Brigade.
“This unit is stationed in Niš, at the ‘Narednik-Pilot Mihajlo Petrovic’ airport,” sources confirmed.
Earlier reports by KosovaPress noted that the unusual exercises had caused concern among residents of Kaçarevë.
The border drills also prompted a reaction from Alban Hyseni, Mayor of Gjilan, who called on both local and international security authorities to closely monitor the situation and take concrete steps to ensure regional security and stability.
“Military exercises conducted near the border with the Republic of Kosovo, close to our municipality, are worrying and provocative for our citizens. The presence of armed forces, aircraft, and such activities in populated areas creates unnecessary insecurity and tension, directly affecting the daily lives of citizens. As Mayor of Gjilan, I express my deep concern over these developments and urge the relevant local and international institutions to monitor the situation carefully and take concrete measures to guarantee safety and stability in the region. Our citizens deserve peace, security, and prospects—not fear and pressure. We will continue to stand by our citizens and actively work to protect their interests,” Hyseni wrote on Facebook.
