In the parliamentary elections held on February 9 in Kosovo, the country was targeted by Serbia’s hybrid warfare.
The regime of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić interfered in the electoral process by activating various assets, ranging from propaganda to vote-buying.
To secure as many votes as possible for the Serbian List, even the prestigious media outlet “EuroNews” was utilized.
Cybersecurity expert Halil Berisha told Klan Kosova that in this disinformation campaign, the reporting of EuroNews Serbia created a narrative encouraging votes for the Serbian List:
“In many of the published reports, the focus was on how Kosovo Serbs were in a difficult situation, and that only the Serbian List could provide resistance for them. The primary focus of the election coverage in Kosovo was on the Serbian List, while other Serbian minority parties were given very little or no media space,” Berisha stated.
What made this even more alarming was the fact that Milan Radojčić, the vice president of this party, was promoted by EuroNews Serbia, despite having carried out a terrorist attack in September 2023. In this attack, a heavily armed Serbian group using Serbian military weapons targeted northern Kosovo.
Beyond supporting this political entity, EuroNews Serbia‘s reporting also amplified nationalist rhetoric:
“In almost every post related to Kosovo, they used the term ‘Kosovo and Metohija’, a phrase that is neither neutral nor impartial, contrary to the standards expected from a media outlet like EuroNews,” said Berisha.
Berisha added that he believes EuroNews’ central headquarters is unaware of this type of reporting, despite the fact that a portion of its funding comes from the European Commission.
Days ago, RKS News had also written about the scandalous reporting of EuroNews Serbia.
Apart from disinformation, Vučić’s regime openly supported the Serbian List through direct financial means to influence the elections in Kosovo.
“Just before the elections, during the campaign period, Vučić’s regime distributed €200 to a large number of families, which was a direct attempt to sway their voting decisions,” Berisha stated.
The manipulation of elections in other countries has recently been a common accusation against Russia as well.
A few weeks ago, RKS News published articles detailing how Serbia is attempting to replicate Russia’s hybrid warfare tactics against other states.
