A routine family visit to Kosovo turned into an ordeal for former Kosovo police officer Arbnor Spahiu.
He was detained by Serbian authorities while traveling by bus through Serbian territory on his way to Kosovo.
Throughout the entire day yesterday, Spahiu was interrogated by Serbian prosecutors, who later decided to place him in one-month pre-trial detention.
This arrest prompted a response from Kosovo’s acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gërvalla. She stated that Kosovo’s institutions have informed international missions both in Pristina and Belgrade, seeking their support in this case.
The Minister also issued a renewed appeal for increased caution to all citizens of Kosovo who are planning to travel through Serbia, especially during the summer months when travel volumes increase.
“Let me once again call for special caution for all those who, as summer approaches, are passing through Serbia, as cases of arbitrary and unjustified detentions have increased in recent months and years,” Gërvalla stated.
Such incidents are not isolated. Just a few days ago, Serbian authorities also detained former MP Gramos Agusholli, who was interrogated for hours before being released in the evening.
Serbia has repeatedly arrested Kosovo citizens in recent years, including former KLA members, whom Belgrade accuses of involvement in war crimes.
