Citizens in North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Zveçan and Leposaviq do not pay property tax, for building permits and for the use of public spaces.
This is just one of the findings of the National Audit Office for the four northern municipalities with a Serbian majority that are already run by Albanian mayors and that is damaging the municipal budgets in the implementation of various projects.
“In general, this damages the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization, i.e. of these four municipalities, negatively affecting the budget and the ability to finance projects as well as to improve services to citizens”, said Agron Fetiu, Responsible for the Audit of Municipalities, ZKA.
The auditor requests that the situation change and the law be respected, as well as for another finding, which is the one regarding the engagement of municipal officials.
“It has been recommended to respect the legal regulations in order to collect revenues, then we are also dealing with the commitment of all municipal officials to comply with the law, with the implementation of public prosecution procedures for specific or special services”, he added. he.
Due to the tense situation, last year ZKA did not conduct audits in these four municipalities.
