Serbs in Mitrovica have been called to participate in a gathering in support of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and his administration, scheduled for this Saturday from 18:30 to 19:30. According to the organizers, the “United Pensioners Association,” the event aims to promote “peace and tolerance.”

Regarding this event, Veton Elshani, Deputy Director of Police in North Mitrovica, appeared on Info Magazine. He stated that the police were informed about the gathering several days ago. Elshani added that law enforcement officers will be present on site to ensure the event proceeds smoothly and that their numbers will be sufficient.

“In principle, we never prevent public gatherings that promote peace and tolerance, especially those expected to be nonviolent. Assembly, gatherings, and freedom of speech are guaranteed by the Constitution, so we have no objections to it,” Elshani said.

“However, we will be there to take the necessary measures to ensure the proper conduct of this public gathering and will intervene if necessary. We have no particular concerns, but we are present in sufficient numbers as required,” he added.

Elshani also stated that there is information suggesting that the Serbian List may support the gathering. “We have sufficient information and believe that the Serbian List is behind this protest. A considerable number of people are expected to attend,” he said.
