American professor and Balkan expert Daniel Serwer has stated that the concept of the “Serbian world” is a modernized version of “Greater Serbia.”

“Student protests could lead to a change of power in Serbia, but I do not know whether this will happen. President Vučić is a master at manipulating popular protests: dismissing a minister here or there, calling new elections, introducing ballot boxes or voters into undecided districts—without seriously endangering his grip on power,” Daniel Serwer, a professor at Johns Hopkins University in the United States, told Danas.

As he notes, Vučić is unlikely to make the same mistake made by Slobodan Milošević, who believed he could win relatively free and fair elections.

“Vučić will be even more careful to secure the outcome,” Serwer emphasized.

“‘The Serbian world’ is merely a modernized form of Greater Serbia. It would bring death and destruction to much of the Balkans today, just as it did in the 1990s. It would also put an end to Serbia’s hopes for EU membership. Belgrade is jeopardizing the prosperity and security of its own citizens in order to expand its influence in neighboring countries. This is not an ambition that will end well,” he said.
