Seven U.S. embassies across the Middle East have issued security warnings to American citizens following renewed fighting involving Iran, urging them to exercise heightened caution amid fears of further escalation.
The warnings were issued by U.S. diplomatic missions in Jordan, Israel, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain. The embassies advised Americans in the region to remain alert and prepare for possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and disruptions to travel.
“The situation in the Middle East remains dynamic,” the warnings stated, while describing the Iranian government as unpredictable.
U.S. authorities also warned that Iran and groups supported by Tehran could target American interests overseas, as well as locations associated with the United States and American citizens, including businesses and other institutions.
Americans were urged to be prepared for the possibility of air attacks. In the event of an attack, they were advised to stay away from windows, glass doors and potential debris, keep their phones charged and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
In Amman, the U.S. Embassy advised Americans to avoid travel toward military bases in Jordan and familiarize themselves with the country’s emergency warning and siren systems.
In Jerusalem, U.S. citizens were advised to identify the nearest shelter or safest available location and maintain supplies of food, water, medication and other essential items.
The alerts come as fighting between the United States and Iran has intensified following months of escalating tensions. U.S. forces have targeted Iranian air-defense systems, radar installations and maritime assets, while Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks against U.S. forces and facilities across the region.
A temporary ceasefire framework reached in June has since broken down. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has nevertheless said Tehran is prepared to return to the agreement and has called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assist diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace.
Meanwhile, the United States is preparing for multiple possible scenarios, with American diplomatic missions implementing different operational measures depending on security conditions in each country.
While consular services continue normally in some locations, other U.S. missions have restricted visa services and non-emergency procedures.
The latest warnings underscore the growing security concerns surrounding the renewed U.S.-Iran confrontation and the potential for the conflict to affect American personnel, citizens and interests across the Middle East.
