Powerful storms swept across France on Wednesday evening, leaving two people dead, 17 injured, and causing significant damage in various parts of the country, including the capital, Paris.
According to the Associated Press (AP), torrential rain quickly flooded Paris streets, uprooted trees, and overturned outdoor furniture at cafes and restaurants. The storm was so intense that it caused leaks in the roof of the French Parliament, during a session where the Prime Minister was speaking.
The French Civil Protection Agency confirmed that one person is in critical condition, while approximately 110,000 homes were left without power due to the violent weather, which followed a severe heatwave.
Tragically, the victims include a 12-year-old boy who was killed when a tree fell on him in southwestern France, and a man who died after his quad bike crashed into a fallen tree in the northwest of the country.
