The only Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, has submitted an initiative calling for the municipality of Presheva to be issued its own license plates. He argues that Presheva, just like every other municipality in Serbia, deserves to be identified by its own name in official documents and public symbols.

In a post on Facebook, Kamberi highlighted that the municipality of Presheva has 12,387 registered vehicles, with 33,449 resident inhabitants and a total of 59,024 people when including non-residents.

“With this number of inhabitants and registered cars, it is entirely reasonable and necessary for Presheva to have its own license plates, instead of using those of Vranje. Presheva deserves equal treatment, and its symbols – including license plates – must be present, just like in every other municipality in Serbia,” Kamberi wrote.

This initiative is seen as a step toward institutional equality and the affirmation of Presheva’s local identity, at a time when issues of representation and Albanian rights in Serbia remain a challenge.
